Ali Bruce retains his singles crown

LAST Friday saw the conclusion of the darts season with the finals night being held in the RBL. Ali Bruce (pictured above of Croft) successfully defended his singles crown by defeating Elizabethan's Alan Smith by three legs to two.

It's the first time anyone has achieved this since Dave Hepburn way back in the nineties.

The doubles saw young guns Peter Mitchell and Mark Kinghorn (Ban-Car) put on a brilliant show to defeat the Crown pair of Alex Bird and Colin Noble by three legs to 2.

In the juniors the Elizabethan's Neale Michie proved too strong for Tudor bar's Gary Hagen.

Gary had chances in the first two legs but clinical finishing from Michie led him to a three legs to 0 victory.

The intermediate final looked as thought Richard Duthie (Eliz) was running away with it by storming into a 2--0 lead over Derek Dennis.

But then Dina turned on the style by hitting two 16DL plus a 15DL which included a 107 finish to clinch a 3-2 victory.

The seniors saw veterans Davie Hepburn (Crown) and Ronnie Ewing battle out a brilliant five leg match. Hepburn rolled back the years with two 180's plus a 17DL to succeed by three legs to two.

Also on the night the 1001 cup was played with the final being an all-Crown affair. The much-fancied Derek Dennis, Davie Hepburn and Ian Peck proved too strong for their opponents Alex Bird, Jimmy Gauld and Colin Noble.

180's - R Ewing (Cft) x2, D Hepburn (CR) x3, C Noble (Cft), R Duthie (El), V Farquhar (El), P Mitchell (BC), D Dennis.

Gray and Adams Super League

THERE were mixed fortunes for the Fraserburgh and Kinnaird in the final Super League fixtures of the season played last weekend.

Fraserburgh defeated Mid Deeside by a narrow 6-4 scoreline in the RB Legion Club, while Kinnaird went down in the Elizabethan by the same scoreline to West Aberdeenshire.

Top played for Broch last Sunday was Derek 'Dino' Dennis with a 3-1 win in 18-18-20 darts for a (26.54) per dart average.

Derek received the 'Top Home Play Incentive Award' courtesy of match sponsors Michael Lawson painters. Alan Smith, a 3-0 winner in 16-22-22 darts (25.05) was also in fine form and his efforts were rewarded as he claimed the 'Bert Fowlie Cup' player of the year trophy, a fine achievement and fitting reward for Alan's's efforts over the last few matches.

Also winning for Broch last Sunday were George Milne, Jamie Hagen, Ian Peck and Vernon Farquhar.

A report on Kinnaird's match against West Aberdeen will appear in next week's Herald.

Players are reminded that the Dicks Sports League Singles and also the Super League Pairs will be played on Saturday, May 8. Registration from 3.45pm at the RB Legion Club.

All registered players are eligible to play in the pairs. Players eligible for the singles will be listed in next week's Herald.
