Bellslea seal league title

BELLSLEA lifted the Welfare Football League title after a 1-1 draw with Faithlie United.

The first ten minutes saw both midfields were cancelling each other out. On 12 minutes Daryl Allan was clean through on goal but Reid came to save with his feet.

Calder nearly put Bellslea in front when he shot from a tight angle but it went right across goal and out for a goal kick. Faithlie had a free kick on the halfway line floated in but Fleming cleared.

Fraser had a 20-yard shot which was well held by McRobb. A good save by Reid from a Watt shot kept the score 0-0. Calder was next to bring out another good save from Reid in the Faithlie goal.

At the other end a good weavy run by Fraser found Sandison who held off Summers and shot just wide of the post. Bellslea did take the lead in 75 minutes with a good move down the right by Gall whose cross found Liam Rollo to fire home the opener.

Watt nearly doubled his tally but a great tackle by Smith saved the day. Reid had another good save from a Calder header.

In the end Bellslea got the points needed to clinch the league title but Faithlie's young ones made them fight all the way to the end.

Meanwhile, Invercairn United played their last game of the season at home against Clinton Thistle which was always going to be a close game and it was the home side that collected all three points after winning by 2-1 with the goals coming from Eric John West and an own goal and for Clinton was Simon Whyte.

In the Deejays Nightclub League the first game of the new season took place when New Deer played host to Mormond Thistle.

Branagan should have given New Deer the lead early on but he managed to fire wide from close range. Mormond took the lead after being awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and quick thinking by Michael Coutts saw him take the kick early and curl the ball into corner of the net.

After a few missed chances New Deer drew level after a cross ball was fed across the goal and Pirie had a simple tap-in to level the scores. They then took the lead just on half time with a 20-yard free kick which was fired into the bottom corner of the net by David Strachan.

Into the second half and the Mormond keeper made a great double save then Neil Thompson headed off the Mormond goal=line to keep them in the game.

Adam Innes drew Mormond level with another free kick which went in off the post. New Deer went ahead when a long throw by Crighton was headed in by Robbie.

Callum Brown nearly earned Mormond a point with a shot from the edge of the box but it came crashing back off the bar.
