Broch hold Buckie to draw

Goalkeepers came out on top at Victoria Park as Buckie Thistle missed the chance to take advantage of Inverurie Locos' defeat and go top of the Highland League table as they had to settle for a home draw with Fraserburgh.

A strong wind contributed to a very dull first half but just two minutes in, a lofted cross from Paul Napier found Jamie Shewan but his shot deflected behind for a corner kick that came to nothing.

Robbie Brown was restored to Buckie's starting line up and he almost notched his first goal of the season six minutes in but his low driven shot rolled inches past the post.

Fraserburgh threatened on 22 minutes as Steven Main's cross found the head of Marc Dickson but the midfielder placed his header wide of the target. Ten minutes later, a flick on by Graeme Stewart put Craig MacMillan in on goal at the other end but his powerful drive was well saved by Fraserburgh goalkeeper Paul Leask.

Last weekend, Ian Murray invigorated Buckie's performance with a goal early on in the second half and he almost repeated the trick as he latched onto Kevin Main's long kick out on 54 minutes. However, the striker's shot was weak and well gathered by Leask.

A well-placed Willie West header then produced a fine save from Main on 59 minutes before substitute Andy Low almost made an instant impact on 64 minutes but his 25-yard curling free kick flashed a few feet past the post.

Low was again involved for the hosts but his driven shot from 25 yards went harmlessly over the crossbar. Murray then went through on goal again on 69 minutes, but instead of controlling the ball and shooting, he tried to take it early with a header that was grasped by Leask with the goalkeeper again denying Low with a great diving save just moment later.

The Broch number one was in inspired form and he was called into action again on 72 minutes when a lofted Zander Sutherland corner found the head of Stewart but the midfielder's powerful effort was superbly kept out by Leask.

Buckie did eventually find a way past the Fraserburgh goalkeeper on 82 minutes as Jamie Shewan headed home but Zander Sutherland was judged to have taken the ball over the by-line before delivering his cross from the left.

Not to be outdone by his opposite number, Kevin Main produced a point-earning save for the home side in the 90th minute. Jamie Ralph must have thought he had won it for the Brochers but his effort was kept out by the Thistle stopper.
