Clinton celebrate title win

CLINTON Thistle's FC's tenth anniversary proved an extra special one when they claimed the league title for the first time.

Team Manager Colin Norrie told the Herald that he always thought they were in this a chance this term:

"Our team formed ten years ago. We have always been confident that we could win the league as we had a very strong team this season," he said.

The current team is run by Colin Norrie, Neil Harvey and Steven Whyte. It was their job to keep the team focussed:

"However we knew that it would be close run with both the Bellslea and Panasonic.

"Our two strikers Ryan Sinclair and Martin Robb have had a fantastic season scoring almost 100 goals between them," he added.

However, he stressed, it was all about team work:

"Our success is due to the strong commitment and dedication as well as hard work by all players in the team.

"We had a few important games that we needed to win to keep us in with a chance namely: St Drostans - away to them is always a tough game, Invercairn - away to them is also very tough.

"We beat St Drostans 3-2 and Invercairn 1-0 and also at Cruden Bay we won and away win of 1-0 which was also really tough.

"The standard of the league this season has been very high," he added.

Club members expressed their gratitude to their supporters and local sponsors:

"We would like to thank Clinton Social Club, Charles and Jennifer McIntyre of the Wallpaper Shop for their ongoing support and sponsorships," said a spokesman for the club.
