Falconer hat-trick sends Bellslea FC into the last eight

INVERCAIRN and Bellslea travelled to Peterhead to get a pitch playable for their cup tie to get played at the 4th attempt.

Bellslea took the lead in the third minute through Scott Falconer, with a curled shot into the corner of the net.

Invercairn then got a corner but was wasted. Allan then made a great drive from his own half and shot from 20 yards, but Campbell turned it round the post for a corner. From the resulting corner Scott Falconer shot home from close range for Bellslea to take a 2-0 lead.

Summers then shot wide from 12 yards. Invercairn came close to reducing Bellslea lead by 1 when a dangerous cross went right across the front of the Bellslea keeper Gizy but there were no takers. Just before half time Fraser Watt headed straight at the keeper from eight yards out.

Invercairn came storming out of the blocks in the second half and got their reward when John Noble shot home from inside the box. Bellslea were under a lot of pressure after this with the Belgers having a good spell.

Cardno had an overhead kick but it was brilliantly pushed out for a corner by Gizy. Cardno went close when he beat the offside trap but again another good save by Gizy.

Bellslea came back into the game and a free kick was floated in and Fraser Watt rose high above the Belger defence to head home for Bellslea to take a 3-0 lead. Belger were pushing hard now and were leaving gaps at the back.

They were finding it hard to break though the back four of Bellslea.

In a quick break Watt got his second when Bellslea had a man extra up front and Watt was played in on the right to fire home to put them into a 4-1 lead.

Belger pulled one back with a Gilbert Paterson Jnr penalty but Scott Falconer got his hat-trick with seconds to go.

Both teams take credit for putting a good game of football considering the conditions and it was well handled by the referee Gary Duncan and his two experienced linesmen.
