Gordon Leask Trophy action

IN the Gordon Leask Trophy first round matches at the weekend, New Deer played host to Mintlaw United and it was the away side that progressed through to the second round with a 3-1 win.

Scorers for Mintlaw were B. Robertson with a penalty, J. Best and S. Emanuelle and replying for New Deer was Gary Milne. Mintlaw played the whole second half with ten men as Ronald Strachan was sent off just before half time.

Crimond were on their travels against Cuminestown in a first round match and found themselves 3-1 down at half time then soon after 4-1 down then they made a great fight back scoring four goals to win by 5-,4 scoring the winner in the last five minutes.

The winning goals came from a hat-trick from John Smith, and one each from Tom Penfold and Ryan Noble and for Cuminestown were Chris Strachan with a hat-trick and one from Mark Robertson.

In the Summer season Deejays Nightclub League on Saturday, new boys New Pitsligo got off to a winning start with a 3-1 away win against Elizabethan Link Up.

Link-Up had a big penalty shout turned down early on by the referee. Pitsligo took the lead with a volley from Mark Maniukiewicz on 20 minutes. Three mins later it was 2-0 when Stephen crossed from the right and was headed home for Maniukiewicz.

Stuart Whyte made it three with a neat turn and fire through the keeper's legs. Link-Up came more into the game in the second half and Bowie should have pulled one back when in on goal, but keeper Alexander made a good stop.

Link-Up did create a few chances but there were no takers. Stephen should have made it four but headed straight at the keeper from six yards. Link-Up did pull one back at the end through Keith Gammack.

Last Season's champions Bellslea started with a home tie against Clinton Thistle and it was expected to be a close game and it was proved right with the match ending all square at 2-2.

Scoring for Bellslea was Fraser Watt with a brace and for Clinton were Scott Milne and Simon Whyte.

Invercairn United had home advantage against Faithlie United and it was a cracker with the away side getting the win in a nine-goal thriller with the winning goals coming from John McKinnon with a hat-trick and a brace from Barry Stephen and for Invercairn were James Gracey, Jamie Martin, Jamie Forman and Ross Davidson.

St. Drostans had St. Combs as visitors in their first game and the away side got their season off to a winning start scoring three goals without reply. The goals came from Neil Taylor, David Buchan and Ross Cardno.
