Penalty points at Lossiemouth
TWO Allan Hale penalties and a late Russell McBride strike gave Fraserburgh the lift they needed earlier last week and kept their winning run going which, at that time, had stretched to eight games.
Anthony Ross had levelled for the visitors, but two goals in the final quarter of the game gave the Broch another three points.
Fraserburgh had named an unchanged side for the third game running, and after a somewhat sleepy start, the game soon turned into a fiery midfield battle.
The home side took the lead after 22 minutes, as Jamie Beagrie was chopped down by JJ Urquhart just inside the penalty box. Allan Hale, on a rich vein of form with five goals in his last four matches, sent McConnachie the wrong way side-footing into the bottom corner.
Lossiemouth soon found their feet and were presented with a couple of chances in the coming minutes.
Neil Main then looked odds on to hit the target at least with a free header following an in-swinging Johnston corner, but he nodded wide of the goal, as the first half came to a conclusion.
Both teams began the second half at a ferocious pace with both teamn shaving some excellent scoring opportunities.
But it was comparatively out of the blue that Lossiemouth levelled. Anthony Ross pinged a beauty of a strike towards the top corner, and it found its destination with precision 20 yards out.
Fraserburgh cranked up the pressure on their Moray counterparts and on 64 minutes, William West fed Hale from the left hand-side, Hale had plenty of space in which to shoot, and given his current form you would have expected him to score, but conversely he sidefooted well over.
The Broch could have gone on to rue these missed chances as Johnston had a shot deflected onto the roof of the net, but they soon went ahead via the penalty spot.
Neil Main had appeared to be bundled over by Michael Dunn, and although McConnachie guessed correctly this time, Allan Hale didn't fail to deliver, squeezing the ball by McConnachie to make it 2-1.
The game was turning into quite an ill-fated encounter, with no less than eight bookings dished out by Graham Beaton and at the time, it seemed that it wouldn't be long before someone made the long walk back to the dressing room.
As Lossiemouth screamed out for an equaliser, Fraserburgh made the points safe with a few minutes remaining. Steven Main played a free-kick towards the front post and Russell McBride hooked the ball towards goal with his left foot and scored, giving Fraserburgh breathing space as the game neared its end.
