Super-sub Forbes seals passage to second round

Fraserburgh United cruised into the second round of the GA Engineering Inter-Regional Cup with a comfortable victory over a lackluster East End at College Park on Saturday.

United made a couple of changes from the previous weeks disastrous display at Banchory as Fraser Davidson and David Innes made their first team debuts on the United right with Lewis Tait and Graeme Brown making way. Andrew Ritchie returned to the centre of midfield at the expense of Neil Forbes.

United started briskly immediately pushing East End back, Iain Bisset and Craig Ritchie forced East End keeper Connor into early action.

United took the lead on 19mins. Cowe flicked the ball out left to C. Ritchie and his driven cross was tucked away from 5yards by Bisset.

United continued to press and Davidson went close from 25 yards as his shot whistled narrowly over. As the half progressed United became more ragged as time and again the midfield gave away possession too easily.

East End almost scored from sloppy play at the back as Dawson pounced on a loose pass 20 yards out and only a great stop from Dunbar kept the scores even. However, East End were not to be denied and on 27mins they equalized as Barron found space at the back post to nod home Ramsey's corner.

United came out for the second half invigorated and immediately took the game to East End, on 49mins a long ball by Hay was cleared to Roy Noble 24yards out and his instinctive volley was turned onto the bar by a brilliant save from Connor.

United did not relent and from Ross' deep free-kick, Innes stole in unmarked six yards out to slam home his first goal in United colours.

East End were struggling to contain the Broch and Bisset almost scored a second but Connor tipped the ball round the post. Forbes and Taylor were introduced for the quiet McLeman and busy Noble.

Forbes almost made an immediate impact when he found himself with only the keeper to beat from 10 yards however Connor again saved his team with a smart block. On 79mins Ewan Taylor tested the keeper from distance but Connor held his shot comfortably.

With time running down United grabbed a 3rd as Forbes pounced on a loose ball inside the East End box and showed his many years of experience as he calmly slipped the ball past the advancing Connor to wrap up the win for United.

Fraserburgh Utd: (4-4-2) Dunbar, Hay, C. Ritchie, Ross, Innes, Cowe, A. Ritchie, Davidson, McLeman, Noble, Bisset. Subs: Farman, Taylor, Forbes
