Duller conditions encourage the fish at Delgatie

A little less of the bright sunshine has encouraged the fish to be more active on the surface and immediately sub-surface at Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery, while considerable numbers of fish are still falling to lures an increasing number are taking on the dry fly and buzzers in various combinations.

Quick retrieved ‘wets’ and nymphs have also enjoyed their share of success. Black or black/red have prevailed as the favourite colour combination.

Best catches this week were recorded by A. Murray of Gardenstown (14 fish), N. Thomson of Turriff (11 fish), G. Burton of Gardenstown (11 fish), B. Cresswell of Macduff (nine fish), J. McCaw of Turriff (eight fish), M. Ewen jnr of Turriff (eight fish) and D. Low of Aberdeen (eight fish).

Mike Ewen enjoyed a good fight with a well formed fish of 9lb 3oz to record the biggest catch of the week.

The fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open from 8am til 9pm daily.

Bookings are not necessary and all tackle including rods and boats are available for hire.
