Excitement ahead of golf event

Fraserburgh and Rosehearty Golf Clubs are to join forces for a special Ryder Cup-style event this weekend.

The tournament, which is part of Clubgolf Scotland, is to be held at the nine-hole course at Rosehill Golf Club on Saturday September 8. A return match will then be held in Rosehearty on Saturday September 22.

Eight adult coaches will be taking part in the event as well as 28 juniors, 14 from Rosehearty and 14 from Fraserburgh. Participants will be put into teams of two.

This is the first year such an event has been organised. Organisers hope the event will help young golfers to enhance their skills ahead of the Ryder Cup which is coming to Gleneagles in 2014. In July, 21 aspiring golfers from Rosehearty were treated to a trip Gleneagles to experience golf at the highest level.

Rosehearty currently has approximately 200 members, with around 40 members in the junior section.

Commenting, Sandra Ross, who is Co-ordinator for Club Golf at Rosehearty, said: “We have been incredibly busy in the lead up to the event.

“We want to make sure it’s well planned and we’re really excited about it.

“It’ll be great for the kids to be able to show their skills and how much they have improved.

“We’re hoping for good weather and looking forward to joining forces with Fraserburgh.

“We would also like to say a special thank you to Graeme and Fiona from SFE Designs on You who have donated a trophy for the competition,” she added.
