Fraserburgh’s Gala Committee met on Thursday, March 29, to report back to one another the recent developments that had been made in regards the planned August gala.

Meeting in the Council Chambers, Saltoun Square, the committee, chaired by Councillor Michael Watt, advised each other on what they had been able to achieve already in the run up to the Broch Gala, and what they had hoped to achieve for August and beyond.

After deciding on a letterhead and logo for the Fraserburgh Gala, committee members discussed scheduling for the three-day event, beginning Friday, August 17.

As discovered on Thursday, the gala will be based at the Leisure Centre and the immediate facilities behind it.

On Friday, it was proposed that an open-air event with live music, featuring DJ Jasper, would perform. Should the weather turn foul, the event could quickly be moved into the Leisure Centre itself.

Fraserburgh’s running club informed the gala that it would be willing to host a one mile nad six mile event in a Hawaiian theme for all ages.

Saturday’s event schedule will, again, be based at the Leisure Centre, with sporting events, stalls and other events taking place throughout the day.

These included a demonstration from local dance groups, a baby show, and martial arts and fitness workshops with the Satorishido Martial Arts group at James Ramsey Park.

A parade was also suggested to take place on Saturday, with committee members suggesting that performance groups could be contacted to gauge levels of interest.

Other interested parties in getting involved with the gala included the Cricket Club, Fraserburgh Football Club, and the Bowling Club.

It was announced that a bay swim would not be possible this year, however, due to the planning and safety requirements involved.
