Aberdeenshire Council has agreed on funding over the next two years for a popular street market in Fraserburgh, the Herald can confirm.

Super Saturday has been running in the Broch for the past two years, and will now occur for at least two more.

Councillor Brian Topping, said: “I am delighted that we have agreed on this.

“It will benefit local businesses, but also create a community spirit in the town.

“I am 100% behind this,” he added.

Despite social media reports that the dates have been confirmed, Cllr Topping has told the Herald that this is not the case.

He and Cllr Buchan said that it was agreed that a condition of the funding to the Fraserburgh Development Trust was that it ‘does not clash with any other known event, with the Invercairn Gala in particular being mentioned’.

Cllr Buchan is pleased with the decision: “I’m very happy that the council has agreed to fund the Super Saturday programme for another two years, and that the suggestions the Invercairn Community Council, Brian Topping, and myself put up about avoiding conflictions with dates of other events, in particular the Invercairn Gala, have been agreed.

“We look forward to a new, refreshed set of Saturday events held over the next two years to help increase footfall in the town centre, and to engender a positive feeling in line with the regeneration strategy.”
