This summer is set to be one of the most exciting ever all over the UK, with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, The Olympics and our very own Fraserburgh Gala.
The gala, to take place over the weekend of August 17, will be full of variety with shows, stalls and events taking place to suit everyone.
As part of the gala, Karen Gibson, a local Zumba instructor is organising a record-breaking Zumbathon! hoping that they can break the current record of 1,233 of dancers all doing the zumba at once.
Karen said: “We want the Zumbathon to be fun and as many people to take part as possible.
“We think it will be something for the whole family and you don’t have to know how to do Zumba to take part.
“We thought it would be a fun idea if people dressed up as well! It would be great to see local businesses joining in too, especially if they dress up!”
The gala will be based at the leisure centre and the immediate facilities behind it.
On Friday, it is proposed that an open-air event with live music, featuring DJ Jasper, would perform. Should the weather turn foul, the event could quickly be moved into the Leisure Centre itself.
Fraserburgh’s running club informed the gala that it would be willing to host a one mile and six mile event in a Hawaiian theme for all ages.
The Zumbathon will take place on Saturday and will be based at the Leisure Centre. Also that day will be sporting events, stalls and other events taking place throughout the day.
These include a demonstration from local dance groups, a baby show, and martial arts and fitness workshops with the Satorishido Martial Arts group at James Ramsey Park.
A parade is also suggested to take place on Saturday, with Fraserburgh Gala committee members suggesting that performance groups could be contacted to gauge levels of interest.
The Zumbathon are looking for generous donations to help make and sell tickets and put up posters around the Broch.
For more information about the Zumbathon contact firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the Karen Gibson facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Karen-Gibson-Dance-Fitness/190241614379113.
Karen hopes the Zumbathon and the Fraserburgh Gala itself will bring all members of the community closer together and bring out community spirit across Fraserburgh and the surrounding areas.
