PEOPLE of Buchan are set to show how much they love Aden Country Park, Mintlaw by attending the forthcoming ‘Wild About Aden’ event which is taking place during the national Love Parks Week.

Wild About Aden is a free, two-day event, which will take place today (Thursday) from 10am to 3.30pm.

Wild About Aden will feature a range of different family friendly activities including: outdoor nature sessions for younger children and their parents; animal handling workshops; bush craft; a selection of rare breed animals from Doonies Farm and the Rare Breeds Survival Trust; countryside classroom on wheels - meeting farm animals; outdoor BBQ; circus skills; art exhibition; storytelling; treasure hunt, and Woodland Zumba!

Free transport is also available. A coach will leave New Pitsligo at 9.30am, returning at 3.30pm. Booking is essential by phoning (01771) 622254.

There will also be a shuttle Dial A Bus running from the Mintlaw Square bus stop collecting and dropping off at Aden. This will be a first come first served basis, approximately every half-hour.

Wild About Aden is a partnership project between Aberdeenshire Council Central Buchan Community Learning, the Ranger, Museum and Library Services, Rare Breeds Survival Trust, Doonies Farm, amongst others, and is designed to provide two days of family fun within the beautiful setting of Aden Country Park. It is hoped that the event will promote family learning opportunities through a range of hands on experiential learning, whilst raising awareness of the local environment and North East farming heritage.

Wild about Aden has been planned to coincide with Love Parks Week. The aim of which is to encourage people into parks and green spaces across the country and to showcase the benefits which are obtainable from free, local resources and encouraging further promotion and reinvestment into such valuable, but often forgotten assets.

Neil Shirran, Aden development worker, said: “Wild about Aden should prove to be a really fun, enjoyable two-day event, and it’s great to see all the partners working together towards this goal.

“We also wanted to celebrate Love Parks Week and we saw this as a great opportunity to be part of it. People do forget what fantastic parks and green spaces we have in this country, especially in Aberdeenshire, and non-more so than here in Aden Country Park, Mintlaw.”

Last year Love Parks Week saw more than 800 events registered across the country providing opportunities for nearly half a million people to get together outdoors and make the most of what our parks offer.

Some Wild About Aden activities will require booking which can only be done at 10am on the day on a first come basis. For more information contact Jane Verity on 01771 622254 / 07747 852298,
