Aberdeen will be awash with music on Saturday, September 22, as around 20 local bands and DJs stage an all-day series of acoustic and full band instore sets, topped by an evening gig.
Aberdeen Performing Arts (APA), ii Music, One Up,, Brewdog, MusicPlus and Strategic Music Partnership have come together to produce the city’s first music open day to showcase and celebrate the wealth of musical talent in Aberdeen.
There will be instore acoustic and full band sets from lunchtime to around 6pm at ii Music in The Academy, and One Up in Belmont Street.
The line-up at One Up will include Interesting Music DJs, Seas Starry, Forest Fires, The Shores, Duke, You Are What We Are, Velvet Audio, Fridge Magnets and Indian Red Lopez.
And at ii Music - Leanne Smith, Craig Davidson, Emubands Workshop, Foxhunting, Lucy Pell, Willson Gray and Cara Mitchell.
In the early evening, at Brewdog Bar, the line-up includes CS Buchan, Ashley Park and The Little Kicks.
And the day will end with a gig at The Lemon Tree with Burn ‘em, Sludge, The Evident, The Sanity Club, Marionettes, Stanley and Home Alone DJs.
In addition to the performances, there will be workshops at ii Music and The Lemon Tree to give both new and experienced musicians alike to learn about furthering their abilities and make their music more accessible.
Talks will cover subjects such as how to get tracks on itunes, Amazon and Spotify and practical related talks such as soundchecking. Sessions will come from MusicPlus and will provide a fascinating insight into how to get greater exposure for your music.
“The day aims to make people aware of how strong our local music scene and give us an opportunity to show our support for it,” said one of the organisers behind the event, APA’s Andy Kite.
“It is going to be one of the most exciting music events to be held in the city,” he added.
