THIS year’s Ugie Folk Festival, which runs from July 27 tio 29, is set to be the best yet!
The weekend kicks-off with the Festival Club Night in Longside Football Social Club from 8pm with a wide and varied selection of regular performers with the addition of long-time friend of Ugie Folk Club, special guest Gary Anderson.
No Ugie Folk Club would be complete without the renowned raffle, described by previous guests as unique and great fun. All this and entry is free. Everyone is welcome, young and old.
On Saturday, July 28, Aden Country Park Theatre is the venue for the Ugie Folk Club and Friends Concert which this year – weather permitting – will be in the courtyard outside the theatre from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
This is another chance to listen to the inimitable Bill Buchan compere the folk club members and friends performing songs and music. Again entry is free and everyone is welcome.
The centrepiece of the festival is the Grand Concert, held at 7.30pm in Crichie Village Hall (doors open 7pm).
A select group of the club membership calling themselves the Uglies – oops that should be Ugies! – will start the evening off and pass the baton on to the very secure hands of the Blyde Lasses, a dynamic duo of Claire White and Frances Wilkins.
Following that will be Frank Robb who will delight with his eclectic mix of original songs and ad lib humour.
Again entry is free but by ticket only so book early to avoid disappointment. There will be no licence so BYOB.y
On Sunday, July 29, there will be something new in the form of an original song writing competition.
Registrations will begin at 11am in Longside Football Social Club, with the competition starting at 11.30am.
Songs must be original lyrics, previously un-recorded, in any genre and written within the last 12 months.
The competition is free and full details are available on the club’s website. From 2pm, also in the social club, the traditional wind-down session is the ideal way to conclude what will be a busy, entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable weekend.
For full details check out the club’s website www.ugiefolk.co.uk; or call 07773 145 778 or 01771 613 352.
