Local band Upstart Heroes have released their EP, entitled ‘Call Off The Search’, and are looking to the future as they begin to book dates throughout the North-east.
A regular feature in the Fraserburgh and Peterhead music scene, the now four-piece band started out life four years ago playing covers under the name ‘Dude Ranch’, featuring current members Graemie-John Watt, Jamie Mathers and Cameron ‘Ted’ Shearer.
“After two years we decided to start writing and recording our own music, and starting playing in Aberdeen whilst saving up to record a CD,” said lead vocalist and guitar player, Graemie-John Watt.
Success, and the fortune required to create that CD would come just one year later, when the band, now playing under the name ‘Upstart Heroes’ recorded four demos with Exile Studios in Aberdeen.
The local lads have met many like-minded bands on their travels, with Graemie-John commenting on their success thus far: “It’s been great, we’ve got to play with a lot of great bands from all over the country and made a lot of friends through playing live.
“It’s also been great looking back to see how far we’ve come.
“We’ve just released our new four-track CD which is called ‘Call Off The Search’ and, so far, have received great feedback from it, including a very positive review from Aberdeen’s student radio.
“The CD is available to buy for four pounds and etails about it can be found on our Facebook page.
“Looking to the future, we’re hoping to carry on selling the CD, getting the music out there and just having a good time playing.”
In the more immediate future, the band will be playing a charity gig in Aberdeen at The Tunnels on June 10, in aid of Cancer Research UK.
“It’s going to be a great gig as there a lot of good bands on the bill, and we are hoping to raise a lot of money for a very good cause,” said Graemie-John.
The gig, on Sunday, June 10, has an entry fee of £4 at the doors, with doors open at 7:30pm. Joining Upstart Heroes on the bill are Days Fall Slow and Start Today, with Oath of Kings headlining the evening.
