Opera Bohemia set to visit Peterhead for the first time

Opera Bohemia is delighted to announce their first visit to Peterhead as part of a Scottish tour of their exciting new production of Puccini’s ‘Gianni Schicchi’, supported by Creative Scotland.

The company are celebrating five years of bringing more opera round Scotland and opportunities to young professional artists.

They will perform Puccini’s one act comic gem on Monday, February 16 and are really excited to perform at Peterhead Community Theatre.

Opera Bohemia was founded by Alistair Digges and Douglas Nairne, both young Scottish professional opera singers.

The company has already taken productions of La Bohème, Lucia di Lammermoor, Madame Butterfly and Eugene Onegin to over twenty venues across Scotland, selling thousands of tickets and employing nearly one hundred young singers and musicians.

As well as showcasing Scottish talent, they have had guest performers including Australian soprano Suzanne Shakespeare and South African soprano Pumeza Matshikiza, both who have since returned to sing in Scotland.

One of the original goals was to try and introduce opera to a new audience and younger generation.

Lots of the Opera Bohemia audience across Scotland are opera ‘newbies’ who have loved the experience.

The company hopes to tempt people to give opera a try with their new production of Gianni Schicchi.

It’s the perfect first time experience and great for all ages; the opera is just one hour long, is great fun and filled with beautiful melodies.

So don’t miss your chance to see Gianni Schicchi on Monday, February 16 at Peterhead Leisure Centre.

The performance will start at 8pm.
