Meallmore have completely revamped the original premises of Glencairn Lodge Care Home on Christian Watt Drive, modernising the building’s entrance, all public rooms, kitchens and private bedrooms.

The £1m project will also enable the care home to help meet the challenges of Aberdeen’s increasing need for accommodation-based dementia support.

Area Manager for Meallmore Morag White said: “We are proud that the new Glencairn Lodge Care Home can provide accommodation of the highest possible standard for our residents and in turn become a major asset to Fraserburgh and the surrounding area.

“Our acquired brain injuries unit provides specialist support and rehabilitation for up to nine people who have neurological conditions, including those with Huntingdon’s Disease. It is an essential facility to help people to achieve the best quality of life through re enablement and rehabilitation.”

Meallmore redesigned the home to allow for a spacious dining and social room in each wing as well as a hairdressing and beauty room, two activity rooms and additional office space for staff. The refurbishment was carried out in five phases over the last year causing minimal disruption to residents.

The home also incorporates state of the art facilities including specialist baths for the benefit of all clients and a significant amount of profiling beds for those with higher care needs. Lighting is controlled by motion sensors within en suites and bathroom facilities which has been proven to minimise the risk of trips and falls for those with sensory impairments.

Video conferencing has also been installed which could allow residents to call family and friends as well as enabling the company to deliver up to date training to all staff within the home. It can also be used as a cinema room for clients to enjoy socially.

Care Home Manager Nicky Cole added: “We really do feel that we are putting something back into the local economy, which the company is especially proud of. I would be more than happy to show anyone interested in finding out more about our care home and the services we offer around our new home.”

Members of the public interested in arranging a guided tour should contact Nicky Cole on 01346 519920.
