Banff Swimming Pool is to benefit from a major upgrade by Aberdeenshire Council.
The £400,000 project will include improvements to the facility’s pool tank, foyer and changing rooms and will also see the installation of a new air-handling unit to help keep the pool environment stable and more welcoming during sudden weather changes.
To accommodate the improvement works Banff Swimming Pool will be closed from April 16 for up to 10 weeks. Customers are encouraged to use the neighbouring pools of Turriff, Huntly and Fraserburgh as an alternative wherever possible.
The council’s sports and leisure team has been working with clubs that use the Banff facility to make arrangements for training at alternative pools.
Aberdeenshire Council’s Head of Lifelong Learning and Leisure, John Harding, said: “We believe the refurbishment work at Banff Swimming Pool will result in a greatly improved facility for local swimmers.
“We’ve been working hard with contractors, neighbouring pools and local clubs to minimise the inconvenience of the closure for users. We will be monitoring the refurbishment work and keeping timescales under review wherever possible to further reduce any disruption to the public.
