A Fraserburgh bar is in the running for Scotland’s Pub of the Year 2015 award.
Cheers Cafe Bar and Tavern has received nominations in several categories in this year’s Scottish Bar and Pub Awards.
The popular Broch venue has been nominated in six of the 14 categories in this year’s awards.
Formerly known as the ‘DRAM Awards’, the prestigious industry awards scheme has been transformed for its 20th year.
Now renamed the Scottish Bar and Pub Awards, there have been over 1,000 nominations already.
The awards are backed by the biggest names in the drinks industry including Diageo, Molson Coors, Tennents, Maxxium U.K., Kopparberg.
Commenting, Cheers Bar proprietor Dennis Forsyth said: “Now in our 10th anniversary year, to receive this recognition for our efforts over the years is overwhelming and gives me and my team great satisfaction for the work we’ve put into Cheers to make it a venue that Fraserburgh can be proud of.
“I’d like to thank our customers, family and friends who have supported us over the years.”
One Cheers Bar customer said: “Cheers always provide a warm and friendly welcome. They are an integral part of the community.
“Dennis and his team always go above and beyond.”
Awards organiser Susan Young commented: “For 20 years we have been rewarding excellence in the Scottish licensed trade, and this year we have opened up the voting so that its not just people in the industry that can vote, pub customers can now vote for their favourite pubs too - they always could vote for the ultimate accolade ‘Pub of the Year’, but in previous years it was up to the pub owners to enter their pubs.”
“The event now has a significant online presence and is being promoted in the DRAM as well on social media.
“To date the response has been phenomenal. Voting has only been open for two weeks and already 1,000 nominations have been received.”
Whether you know a great whisky bar or a great craft beer pub, gastro pub or a pub that’s dog friendly – there are categories to suit all.
