Cheers Bar in Fraserburgh has celebrated further awards success having picked up the Best Spirits Pub accolade in a major industry competition.

Popular Broch venue Cheers won the title - which was one of 18 categories - for the Yorkshire, North-east and Scotland region in the Great British Pub Awards recently.

Following the success, Cheers was then invited to compete again all the other regional winners in the Spirit Pub category from across the UK.

In the latter contest, Cheers was runner-up and was also awarded ‘highly commended’ status for their entry. Cheers stocks almost 600 spirits, including some of the best in the world.

And the Fraserburgh establishment secured even further awards success in another industry competition.

Cheers picked up the Best Family Pub Award in the Dram Scottish Licensed Trade Awards 2014 at a prestigious ceremony recently.

Not stopping there, Cheers has also reached the final of the Scottish Licensed Trade National (SLTN) Awards in the Best Outdoor Area category and the new ‘Story to Tell’ category. Cheers has entered itself for the latter award for its ongoing awards success over recent years.

Cheers was selected as Pub of the Month for May as part of the Story to Tell initiative, one of six venues to be chosen for such a title over the summer months. The overall winner of the Story to Tell award will be announced along with the winners of all the other categories, including Best Outside Area.

Commenting, Dennis said: “To reach the final of the Great British Pub Awards, although we missed out on winning, we still felt it was a great achievement to be the runner-up for the whole of Great Britain and also be recognised as highly commended, having been told we came very close to winning.

“We keep on pressing to improve the venue and its facilities and reaching award finals is a good benchmark to know what level we’re at.

“The awards not only give us great recognition but they also bring some positive attention to Fraserburgh as well.

“We look forward to the SLTN Awards in November - fingers crossed we can do Fraserburgh proud again.”

Cheers is planning a Halloween Weekend party later this year which will include live entertainment, the ever-popular photo booth and cash prizes for fancy dress winners. There will also be Halloween-themed food and drink and ‘excessive’ Halloween decorations.
