A committee has been set up to organise the Fraserburgh Mid Summer Ball.
The committee, which includes representatives from Fraserburgh Forward, Fraserburgh Development Trust and the Fraserburgh Rotary club, is organising the annual Ball, which has been running for ten years. The proceeds of the event will to go towards funds for the town’s Chirstmas lights.
Following changes to the way Christmas lights are funded in towns and villages, responsibility for putting up and taking down the lights, as well as insurance and repairs, has now shifted to local communities.
The committee, which already has around ten members, hopes to raise funds to keep Fraserburgh sparkling over the festive period, with any surplus going to a local cause.
The first of the committee’s monthly meetings has already taken place.
This year’s Mid Summer Ball is taking place at Fraserburgh Leisure Centre on June 22 with music from ‘Picture This’. The event will include a champagne reception, a meal and dancing.
Ann Bell, who is a member of the new committee, said: “Preparations for the Ball are well under way. We hope the community will support this event, which has become a highlight of the summer social scene.
“The lights will help to keep Fraserburgh sparkling over the Christmas period and encourage people to shop in Fraserburgh.”
Fellow committee member Jozefine Duthie commented: “This event really shows the community spirit in the town. We sent out an appeal to set up a committee to continue this great event and we were delighted with the response from groups and businesses who want to see Fraserburgh survive and prosper.”
