New Aberdour WRI take part in competitions

The New Deer Show was held recently and the New Aberdour WRI entered items in the open competitions at the show.

New Aberdour is a small but enthusiastic group of members, and the number of awards won by such a small group was outstanding.

In the Junior competitions, Aiden Livingstone came second for colouring a picture and Logan Middleton won first place for his collage of a house for the ‘three little pigs’.

As the awards for the adult sections were given it was shown that the ‘grown-ups’ had also achieved good results.

Joyce Strachan won first place for her jam and Samantha Skene won second place in the papier mache competition.

Moira McDermont was awarded first place for the Decoupage Card section, and Moira Nelson won first places in both the Novelty Child’s Hat and Crochet article sections.

Lastly, special mention must be made of Catherine Gibb who won 5 awards - third place in the Child’s Motif Jumper, first place for her Scottish Novelty knitted item, second place for the knitted ‘Fish and Chips’ jumper, and, first place for the best knitting of the show and second place for the most knitting items entered. Cathy only recently learned to knit and has done really well. Congratulations Cathy, and all the members who were awarded places.

Some of the members of the WRI have been inspired by the regular craft evenings that are held at the house of the WRI President Moira Nelson. On those evenings members can try new craft skills in a group of humorous, like-minded women who are there to help each other.
