A Balmedie man has celebrated his 60th birthday by raising funds for an Aberdeenshire children’s charity.

Sandy Park, who is originally from Mintlaw but who now lives in Balmedie with his wife, Sheena, has raised money for Kayleigh’s Wee Stars.

Thanks to generous donations from family and friends, Sandy was able to raise the fantastic sum of £811 for the good cause.

Sandy hosted a birthday party recently, which was attended by over 80 friends and family, at the White Horse Inn, Balmedie.

During the celebration, guests were invited to make a contribution to a donation box as part of the fund-raising effort.

Sandy chose Kayleigh’s Wee Stars as, having five grandchildren himself and another grandchild on the way, he wanted to raise funds for a charity that would benefit children and their families.

Kayleigh’s Wee Stars provides financial support for families where a child has a terminal illness.

Commenting, Sandy said: “Everyone had a wonderful evening, it was great to have so many friends and family all in one venue.

“I thoroughly enjoyed celebrating my 60th and I’m now eagerly awaiting my bus pass!

“We’re delighted to be able to present Kayleigh’s Wee Stars with this donation, I’m sure the charity will put the money to good use.”
