Brave souls take the plunge on Boxing Day

While most people were at home, working off their Christmas lunch, 17 big-hearted volunteers took the opportunity to go for a dip at Fraserburgh harbour to raise funds for the RNLI.

The annual Boxing Day swim has become part of the local calendar in recent years, this being the fifth year that the event has taken place.

Amanda and Christopher Waller, Emma Noble, Mary-Rose Cross, Norman Reid, David Sim, Ian Reid, Carol Donald, Charles Cumming, Shane Richardson, Juris Zsadnovskis, James Bicocchi, Ross Smith, Sarah-Jane Darby, Robert Creighton and David Lapage all took to the brisk, 5.8 degree water last week.

Fraserburgh Lifeboat thanked all who participated in the swim and the crew for their work on the day, making sure to mention that, at 70, Carol Donald was the most senior person to have taken part in the wintry swim.

The RNLI’s SOS Day, which was boosted last year by the efforts of volunteers taking part in the Boxing Day swim, will take place on the last Friday of January, with events taking place across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

This year, the event will take place on Friday, January 25.
