Fraserburgh butchers Bruce of the Broch will be offering up some champion beef for their customers this Christmas.
The Broad Street-based business snapped up two of the champions at the Aberdeen Christmas Classic at Thainstone recently.
Bruce of the Broch paid £2,000 for Honey Boo Boo, the young farmers’ haltered cattle champion shown by Reece Simmers, of Backmuir, Keith.
The 15-month-old 508kg Limousin cross heifer was originally bred by Michael Durno of Auchorachan, Glenlivet.
The shop also bought the overall open unhaltered cattle champion, Jinky, shown by Blair Duffton of Huntly, for £1,890. The 19-month-old Blonde D’Aquitaine heifer was originally bred in Cumbria.
Alistair Bruce, who is managing director at Bruce of the Broch, commented: “We always buy our beef at the market and we always do it ourselves.
“We hang the beef for three weeks as it’s the old fashioned way of handling beef. Ours never goes into packets, it’s always hung in the traditional way.
“We had one of the champion beefs last year as well. We like to give our customers the very best at all times but especially at Christmas.”
