If you go down in the woods in a Buchan village you are sure of a big surprise thanks to the efforts of local volunteers who have transformed the site of an old brickworks into a community park that is winning rave reviews from visitors.

Allan Hogg a volunteer at Strichen Community Park said: “We are very proud of what has evolved at the park and if you have not been I suggest you take a stroll and tell your friends what you have seen.

The hidden gem includes a large lake among the trees, a meadow, and an assortment of wildlife, all linked by spacious walkways. The park was purchased by the local committee and since then has been a perpetual hive of activity, as volunteers beavered away to make it a tourist attraction.

“We have been particularly appreciative of the involvement of local youngsters who have taken great pride in their work, and take much credit for the development of what is genuinely a community facility,” said Mr Hogg.

In the six years of its existence the committee has grown in strength and confidence, but still require volunteers to take the scheme forward.

Volunteers are always wanted. Anyone interested should come to the Lodge or get in touch with me or any of the park directors,” he added.
