A sex attacker has been jailed for more than three for an attack on a woman in Fraserburgh after his victim filmed him apologising for his actions.

Ian McLaren, 55, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the woman by molesting her and threatening violence and was jailed for three years and two months at the High Court in Edinburgh.

He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register.

In July 2013, McLaren attacked the woman at a house in Fraserburgh but his victim did not take the matter to the police straight away incase she was not believed.

Months later the woman met McLaren by chance on the street and started recording their conversation on her mobile phone.

She questioned him over it in an attempt to get him to admit what he had done.

During the conversation McLaren said he did not want the victim to feel horrible about it and said he was disgusted with himself.

He also said that he did not know how many times to say sorry.

His victim then brought the evidence to the police in June 2014.
