Police continue hunt for missing prisoner Lee Cyrus

Grampian Police are continuing their search for missing prisoner Lee Cyrus - also known as Ivan Leach - who is described as dangerous

Cyrus failed to return to North Sea Camp open prison in Boston, Lincolnshire on October 9.

His whereabouts are currently unknown and it is possible that he could be travelling extensively across Scotland and England.

Police were today investigating a possible sighting of Cyrus in the Boddam area which turned out to be a false lead.

The last known sighting of Lee Cyrus was in Preston on October 19 however forces across the UK have received over 100 possible sightings since he went missing.

Grampian Police were alerted to a potential sighting of a male fitting the description of Lee Cyrus during the late evening of Tuesday this week by two patrolling police officers.

Chief Inspector Derek Hiley said earlier today: “We are treating this possible sighting of missing prisoner Lee Cyrus seriously and are conducting all possible enquiries to establish whether Cyrus is, or has been, in the Grampian area in recent days.

“As with all other police forces in the UK, we are following up on all potential sightings of this dangerous individual. Until we can be certain that Cyrus is not, or has not been, in the Grampian area, I would urge members of the public to take all possible precautions to ensure their safety.

“Cyrus/Leach is extremely dangerous and should under no circumstances be approached. We have an extensive police presence in the area carrying out patrols and searches to ensure the safety of the public.

“It is crucial that members of the public who believe they have seen a male fitting the description of Lee Cyrus contact Grampian Police as a matter of urgency.

“He is described as white, around five feet 11 inches tall, of stocky build with a shaved head and hazel eyes.

“He has a distinctive scar on his top lip under his nose and two distinctive tattoos, one with the name ‘Annette’ on the bicep of his left arm and a figure of a barbarian woman on the back of his right shoulder blade.

“Cyrus was last seen wearing a black waterproof jacket, dark trousers and carrying a full rucksack.

“I would ask that anyone with any information which may assist the police with this enquiry to contact Grampian Police on 0845 600 5 700 or if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
