Pupils of Rathen Primary School are pictured looking forward to getting to grips with their newly installed playground equipment including a pirate ship, which the youngsters are crowding round.

It has all been organised and purchased by the Rathen, Memsie and District Community Council which applied to Banff and Buchan Area Initiative Fund f or a grant, which turned out to be £6,600.

Benches were purchased for the playground - until the community council’s initiative there had been nothing.

In addition the Community Council contributed £170 of its own funds and there were two handsome anonymous donations, each for £800.

The school also received gardening equipment for the children, comprising gloves, trowels and watering cans.

The items purchased with the help of the grant and donations included a swing for Memsie Park.

Now the 72 pupils of Rathen Primary are making full use of the generosity of their friends in the community.
