Banff and Buchan College students have recently placed in a Scotland-wide contest.

The competition, which was held at the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen, had the theme ‘the Best of British’ and saw Banff and Buchan College students walk away with prizes.

Karolina Szulka and Naomi Smith, who are both on the Level 2 Beauty Therapy course, competed with students from Colleges throughout Scotland.

Karolina Szulka, from Turriff, won third prize in the nail art competition and Naomi Smith, from Whitehills, won third prize in the manicure competition.

Both girls were delighted with their wins.

Naomi said: “It was a great day and the atmosphere was

“I have never experienced anything like that before and it was really nerve racking.

“I will definitely do it next year and I’m really proud I to have been placed given the stiff competition.”

Manicure is only one element of the Level 2 Beauty course currently running at the Macduff campus.

Jennifer Fordyce, Community Development Manager, said: “The students also learn how perform facials, provide eyelash and eyebrow treatments, waxing techniques, provide pedicures and make up treatments.

“Students are always looking for willing volunteers to come and try their new skills, so why not become one of their clients and treat yourself to a treatment at the Macduff Learning Centre.”

As a direct result of this achievement, Banff and Buchan College are planning to run a five-week Introduction to Nail Art course in January.
