A wildlife park near Fraserburgh has been short-listed for Britain’s Favourite Nature Reserve by a popular lifestyle magazine.
The RSPB Loch of Strathbeg has been nominated along with nine other reserves by Land Love magazine in their 2015 awards.
Simon Busuttil, RSPB Scotland’s Regional Reserve Manager said: ““We are delighted that Loch of Strathbeg has been shortlisted by Land Love Magazine as one of Britain’s favourite nature reserves.
“It’s one of the best birdwatching sites in Scotland, but it’s humbling that the reserve is being recognised as such a great place to visit.”
The Loch of Strathbeg is one of four RSPB reserves to make the Land Love magazine short-list.
The awards say that it wants to ‘celebrate the very best things about the British countryside’.
Last year over 25,000 people voted in the magazines debut awards list.
The magazine states that they ‘once again want to hear what you like best so we can give your favourites the recognition they deserve’.
Mr Busuttil said: “Regardless of the outcome of the public vote, we will continue to work to provide homes for nature and spectacles for our visitors from nesting terns in summer to the tens of thousands of pink-footed geese that arrive in autumn.
“We hope things will be even better when work to improve the visitor and volunteer facilities finishes next year.”
The Regional Reserve Manager added: “But it’s just great to know other people value this nature reserve as much as we do.”
