This year Christmas and New Year’s Day are both on a Wednesday, meaning refuse and recycling collections usually made on a Wednesday will be made the following Saturday.
This means collections due on Christmas Day will now be on Saturday, December 28, and collections due on New Year’s Day will now be on Saturday, January 4.
Collections may be earlier than your usual time, so please put your refuse and recycling out by 7am to ensure it is collected.
All other collections over the festive period will take place on the usual days.
If your refuse collection is missed due to severe weather, extra bags can be put alongside your bin on your next collection day. This is the only time extra waste can be accepted.
All Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs) will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and January 2.
They will open on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve from 9am to 4pm, closing an hour earlier than usual in some cases. Alford and Insch Recycling Centres will open on Friday, December 27 and Friday, January 3. Otherwise all will be open as usual.
Please be aware that over this busy period containers at recycling points may be fuller than normal, particularly at busy supermarkets.
The council will be working to service all recycling points as often as possible.
The council has also said that if they miss your recycling collection, you may put bags of extra materials alongside your bin or box.
And, when decorations come down in the New Year, residents can recycle their Christmas tree, free of charge, at most HWRCs.
