Banff and Buchan councillors this week debated the future of Fraserburgh’s former swimming pool and youth centre buildings.
The two buildings, to the rear of Fraserburgh Academy, had been left disused with the opening of the new Sports and Community Centre.
Councillors, however, were taken to a vote on the officer’s recommendation to demolish the buildings back to grass after Fraserburgh and district councillor Michael Watt suggested it would be a “waste” to demolish the building.
Alan Whyte, head of property and facilities management at Aberdeenshire Council, had revealed to councillors that the buildings were now deemed surplus to requirements to the council at the meeting on Tuesday, saying that Fraserburgh Academy would then retain the ground.
Councillor Watt said: “I think, myself, that would make an ideal private leisure club.
“I don’t see the point in demolishing a real asset,” he added.
A vote of 8-2, however, saw the former swimming and leisure facilities fated to be demolished.
