Get ready for the jogscotland 5k challenges 2011, the fun filled 5k events, held across Scotland, have become a firm favourite in the Scottish running calendar and they are back again this June, kicking off on June 8 at Haddo.
With each 5k taking place on a mid week evening in beautiful locations across six different venues, the series takes in a range of fabulous views and different terrains, letting participants see Scotland at it’s very best while on foot!
Kicking off on Wednesday June 8, the first event of the series will be held in the spectacular grounds of Haddo Country Park, Aberdeenshire.
This year marks Aberdeen City and Shire’s sixth jogscotland event. Last year’s challenge took place at Hazlehead Park and attracted hundreds of runners who enthusiastically took to the course for a post work walk/jog/run.
The jogscotland 5k challenges welcome everyone, work teams, groups of friends out for a good time and individuals looking for a personal best. The friendly atmosphere is born out of jogscotland’s ethos of making physical activity fun and accessible.
First-time participant, Aberdeen girl Deborah Rogers took part last year. She said: “It was an awesome event with a great atmosphere. The rush I got from finishing my first ever race means it probably won’t be my last.”
Jogscotland Manager Alistair Currie is looking forward to this year’s events.
He said: “Each year we welcome more and more participants, from those looking forward to their first ever run with us, to more familiar faces.
“The support from our groups across Aberdeen City and Shire is always very strong, which creates a fantastic atmosphere.
“Jogscotland works hard to give people opportunities to get active, irrespective of age and ability.
“The jogscotland 5k challenges give everyone a goal to work towards, as well as a great night out which they can enjoy with their friends, family and work colleagues.
“What better way to finish off your day than by donning your trainers and getting a breath of fresh air in beautiful surroundings, and an overall sense of achievement when you cross that finish line!”
The series is suitable for all levels of runner and junior runs are held before each 5k challenge.
