A Fraserburgh care home, which has been transformed after a £1million refurbishment, has received lots of competition entries where local people were invited to help re-name the home.

Nicky Cole, who manages Glencairn Lodge Care Home on Christian Watt Drive, says choosing a winner will not be easy.

She said: “It will not be an easy choice to make. We had many terrific entries, which shows the high level of interest that local people take in their community. I believe we will find a name that reflects the history of the care home and its surrounding area as we are hoping to become an integral part of its future.”

Meallmore, one of Scotland’s leading providers of nursing and residential care, are currently recruiting new members of staff as a result of the refurbishment, which modernised the building’s entrance, all public rooms, kitchens and private bedrooms.

Meallmore currently employ 79 staff at Glencairn Lodge which is comprised of mainly local people who are familiar with the area, providing a high standard of care for the specific needs of each resident.

The home was redesigned to meet the needs of elderly people, as well as those with dementia and acquired brain injuries, and allow for a spacious dining and social room in each wing. A hairdressing and beauty room, two activity rooms and additional office space for staff have also been added. The refurbishment was carried out in five phases over the last year causing minimal disruption to residents.

The home incorporates state of the art facilities including specialist baths for the benefit of all clients with higher care needs. Lighting is controlled by motion sensors within en suites and bathroom facilities which has been proven to minimise the risk of trips and falls for those with sensory impairments.

Video conferencing has also been installed which could allow residents to call family and friends as well as enabling the company to deliver up to date training to all staff within the home. It can also be used as a cinema room for clients to enjoy socially.

Glencairn Lodge Care Home which is situated at 2 Christian Watt Drive became part of Meallmore in April 2009. The company is owned and operated by the Hennessey family along with a dedicated management team.
