This year’s Invercairn Gala is kicking off on Sunday, August 3, with a host of fun activities lined up for the whole family.

Details of the full seven-day line-up have been announced with a packed programme of events leading up to the main Gala Day on Saturday, August 9.

The gala begins at 3pm on August 3 with Invercairn Gala Praise in the Invercairn Community Hall with Willie Watt acting as compere.

On Monday, August 4, there will be a Children’s Treasure Trail from 6pm to 7.30pm, starting at the Marquee. Entry cost is £1 per person which includes free juice and crisps. All bags and entry forms are to be handed in on return and there will be prizes for the winners.

Then, from 6.30pm on Tuesday, August 5, It’s A Knockout will arrive in Invercairn for an evening of family fun.

This year’s It’s A Knockout will be open to children and adults and will start at the entrance to the playing fields, beside the Pavilion. All entries and enquiries to be made to organisers Jonathan or Matthew as soon as possible.

Also on August 5 will be a Family Horse Race Night in the Marquee with Tote Masters Alistair and Archie. The Race Night starts at 8.30pm, including a licensed bar, with hamburgers and refreshments on site.

The family fun continues on Wednesday, August 6, with Junior Bingo from 2pm in the Marquee. Cost is £1 per book.

Then, from 7pm in the Marquee, visitors will have the chance to take part in a quiz night and the Tartan Hypnotist Family Show. Cost is £2.50 per person with up to six people in each quiz team. Again there will be hamburgers and refreshments on site. The Tartan Hypnotist follows at 9.45pm.

On Thursday, August 7, there will be a Junior Disco in the Marquee from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. Entry fee is £1.50.

From 8pm in the Marquee there will be Prize Bingo, including a licensed bar and refreshments on site. Cost is £8 a book.

A Disco - featuring Brian Topping - will follow the Prize Bingo. Entry is £2 if not playing bingo.

On the penultimate day of the Gala Week, Friday, August 8, the Fancy Dress Parade kicks off at 6pm. The parade starts at the school grounds and is open to all ages. Everyone receives £1 if entering.

Then from 9pm to 1am there is the Friday Marquee Dance with live music from Gala newcomers ‘Splash’. Tickets cost £8 each, including licensed bar. There will be hamburgers and refreshments on site. Strictly over 16s and ID is required for over-18yr wristbands. Admission is by ticket only. There will be free bus transport to St Combs and Fraserburgh, leaving at 1.15am sharp.

Then from 1pm on the main Gala day, Saturday, August 9, there will be even more family fun on offer.

Attractions are to include 3k and 10k fun runs, a magician’s display, 2wit2woo Owl and Raptor display, RBL Pipe Band, Archery Club, open 5-a-side football, 6.1.0 Dance Academy, wood carving demonstrations, Bigger Strongman competition and Zorbing Balls.

There will also be a display of photos from yester-year, a cake baking demo and a baby show.

The many stalls at the Gala event will include ‘Play Your Cards Right’, target golf, whisky wheel, lucky dip and more.

Visitors will also be treated to a host of delicious refreshments, including kippers, burgers, hot dogs, crisps, teas, juice, strawberries and ice cream, sweets and, of course, the superb fish stall with an array of fresh produce.

In the evening, there will be the Saturday Marquee Extravaganza - finishing the week with live music from the fantastic Paradise J performing from 9pm to 1am. Tickets cost £12 each, including licensed bar. If you look under 21, ID will be asked for. Admission is by ticket only and strictly for over 18s. There will be free bus transport to St Combs and Fraserburgh, leaving at 1.30am sharp.

Marquee Dance tickets - for the Friday and Saturday events - are available from Peter’s, Loco and the Golf Club.

Don’t forget, donations for the raffle, bottle stall and home bakes can be made to any Gala Committee member.

Raffle tickets are now on sale and are available from any committee member. The raffle will be drawn on the Saturday night of Gala week. The raffle prizes on offer are: 1st prize: £500; 2nd: £300; 3rd: £200; 4th: £100.

Organisers hope you will be able to come along to watch, take part and help out, but most of all enjoy a week of fun at this year’s Invercairn Gala.
