A member of staff at SBP Accountants and Business Advisors has recently celebrated three decades of service in her hometown, having already claimed the record as its longest serving employee.

Mary Brebner, 66, started work with SBP in 1984 as an accounts assistant, and at that time the company was known as George Shearer Accounts, which was based in a small office on Narrow Lane in Peterhead.

The firm has since grown considerably and has moved into larger premises at Links Terrace in the town as well as opening offices in Aberdeen, Fraserburgh and Banff.

Living just five minutes away from her workplace means that Mary, who is now an accounts senior, is lucky to be able to avoid a long commute to work every day.

While technology has changed greatly since Mary started out filling in handwritten files 30 years ago, she says she has constantly adapted to every new way of working which has come in over the years as she explained: “The firm is obviously a lot bigger and we have more staff than we did when I started. However, I have been dealing with some of the same clients my whole time here and they are now more like friends to me.

“We talk about family stuff as well as work and they pretty much were there as my grandchildren grew up.

She added: “I also think it’s nice for them to have the same, familiar voice on the other end of the phone.”

As a special token of the firm’s appreciation, Mr Hannah presented Mary with a voucher for a cruise.
