Previously acting Head of Children’s Services Bob Driscoll has been appointed to the position on a permanent basis.
The decision was made by Aberdeenshire Council’s Appointments Committee following deliberations at Woodhill House last week. (Thursday May 26)
Bob has been involved in social work in the north-east for over 20 years, during which time he has held the positions of team manager and social work manager with Aberdeenshire Council.
Raised and schooled in Kirkintilloch, near Glasgow, he started his career in social work in central Scotland, but now lives with his family in Aberdeenshire. He is taking up what is an extremely important role in terms of the care and protection of children and young people in the north-east.
As a member of the Strategic Management Team, the Head of Children’s Services provides entrepreneurial leadership, vision and strategic direction to the council and the Housing and Social Work Service.
Bob will also lead, manage, support and provide direction for key programmes and projects.
The father of two will take up the post in June and is looking forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead.
“I genuinely believe that there’s a tremendous multi-agency platform in Aberdeenshire, and that in childcare we have a talented and committed group of staff right across various settings,” said Bob.
“We also have a highly-committed pool of foster carers and kinship carers who provide first class support to children and I’m looking forward to continuing the good work that’s already been established and building on it.”
Appointments Committee chairwoman Cllr Anne Robertson added: “Our congratulations go to Bob for his success and we look forward to seeing him build on what has already been achieved within the service.”
