New start for Home-Start

Home Start North East Aberdeenshire has welcomed a new coordinator to join their team for Fraserburgh and the surrounding areas.

The organisation provides assistance for families with at least one child under the age of 5 and offer a unique service, recruiting and training volunteers to high standards enabling them to support families and parents with young children.

Angie Christie, the organisation’s new coordinator, took up the post at the beginning of September and is committed to developing the service further in Fraserburgh, Peterhead and surrounding areas.

Angie says that she is delighted to have been given this opportunity and her enthusiasm and vast experience of working in the voluntary sector will ensure that Home-Start will deliver the best possible service. She said:

“Everyone needs help sometimes. There is no rule book for raising a family and sometimes it can be overwhelming, particularly if you are going through hard times.

“Those early years before children go off to school are vital in a child’s development and at Home-Start we believe parents have a key role in creating a secure and happy childhood for their children and every now and again, parents need a little bit of help.”

Home-Start relies on volunteers as they are the backbone of the organisation and due to high demands for their service they would like to ask for volunteers to help out at Home-Start. Angie continued:

“If you are a parent, or carer, you will know and understand just how tough life with young children can be especially in this social/financial climate.

“If you would like to have the opportunity to help a family to deal with the demands and difficulties of family life we can train and support you to this rewarding work.”

Home-Start NEA is part of a National Organisation but is locally funded. Although Home-Start has been running since 1973, the scheme was found in Fraserburgh in 1995 and extended through to Peterhead and surrounding rural areas in January 1999.

Anyone who feels they could commit a few hours of their time each week to help families with young children should contact Angie on 01346 518930 or email:
