Ellon’s panto has been given a major boost from a recruitment drive.
Ellon Parish Church Drama Group held an opening evening last week in the hope of attracting new members for this year’s production.
And they were delighted with the response.
Eight budding thespians and two backstage helpers went along to hear an introduction from Ann Reid, chairperson, and Sean Harrison, director, then the new recruits spent some time chatting to the present cast.
Sean said: “To have 10 new people on board is excellent. We have eight people keen to go onstage, two of whom are men who have played panto “Dame” or “Baddie” roles before.
“This is fantastic as we have just lost these characters to retirement and job relocation.”
He added: “We also have some ladies with a variety of previous stage experience, treading the boards on stages as far away as Forfar and Ireland.
“The offer of backstage help too with props and lighting is greatly appreciated.
“We can now make decisions on what pantomime we will do this year and look forward to presenting our 20th annual Ellon Pantomime to the people of Ellon and district.”
The local pantomime has gone from strength to strength over the years with the number of performances increasing from four to five due to public demand.
It is usually performed in late November/early December.
Officials were waiting on the response to the open evening to see the size of cast before turning their attention on the choice of show this year.
Group bookings are already being taken.
