From rowies to haggis and Cullen skink, a north-east entrepreneur hopes to bring a taste of Grampian to all corners of the globe with the launch of a new enterprise.

IT worker Scott Millar will take a bite out of the region’s buoyant food and drink market with the creation of the Doric Delight Box – an innovative gift idea aimed at capturing some of the culinary delights on offer in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray.

Believed to be the first product of its kind in the UK, the Doric Delight Box contains a variety of niche items that represent life in the north-east of Scotland.

Each two-kilogram box holds 10 treats, including rowies, soup, crisps and chocolate courtesy of some of the area’s most recognisable brands.

Those who live further afield and have a strong affinity with the north-east of Scotland are expected to benefit most from the Doric Delight Box, as it is designed as a celebration of the region.

Scott said: “The idea behind the box first came to me when visiting family in the United States; where, like many other countries, everyday items that we take for granted here in the north-east of Scotland can be difficult – or even impossible – to find.

“It seems like no matter where you are in the world, you’re bound to come across someone from Aberdeen or with a connection to the Granite City – whether they are ex-pats, former university students or work in the oil and gas industry.

“The Doric Delight Box is intended as a fun gift idea for family and friends who have either moved away or have fond memories of Aberdeen and the surrounding area.

“Equally, it could also act as an introduction to some of the culinary delights on offer for people who are new to the city.”

Each Doric Delight Box contains rowies, chocolate and confectionery, soup, crisps, fish and chips batter mix, biscuits, tea, juice and a mystery item.

Mr Millar added: “It is still early days for the business but initial feedback has been positive and we are already seeing orders from customers.

“I firmly believe there is massive potential to bring this type of product to a global audience and put the north-east on the map for a positive reason.”
