A Rosehearty man and three of his friends from Turriff will compete in a car rally to Benidorm to raise money for charity.

Kevin Porter, Graham Rattray, Douglas Christie and Russell Milne will take part in the Benidorm or Bust race for Clan Cancer and Friends of Turriff Hospital.

The four men have purchased a car for under £500 and will drive it 18000 miles over four days from Gaydon in England to Benidorm in Spain.

Kevin said: “They ask you to do something that’s local and personal to you.

“The Turriff guys have friends and family who have used Turriff hospital and wechose Clan because my wife lost people to cancer.”

The idea for the trip started as a 40th birthday present which fell through but the friends were keen to keep it going for charity.

They have called themselves the Turra Coo Benidorm or Bust Team and have transformed a Renault Laguna estate into a replica of a John Deer tractor called the “Oh Deere”.

Kevin said: “Because we’re all sort of country lads we thought it would make sense to make it a John Deere tractor.”

The team have also decided to do the whole trip in kilts.

The race starts on June 8 from the British Motor Museum in Gaydon where the Turra Coo team will be one of 150 entrees to try and be the first to Benidorm.

Of the 150 entrees only two come from Scotland.

The boys have set up a Facebook page and a Justgiving page to try and raise money for their charities and have also appealed to local businesses to sponsor their journey.

Kevin said: “Anyone that is willing to sponsor us, for example local businesses, will be able to get some free advertising on the car.”

If you want to sponsor the Turra Coo team you can do so on their Justgiving page at or you can visit their Facebook page under the name The Turra Coo Benidorm or Bust Team.
