A Sandhaven kids group are embarking on a series of fundraising events after being selected to attend the Queen’s birthday parade in London.

Sandhaven Brownies have been allocated a number of the 250 tickets made available for the Trooping of the Colours at the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations this June.

Pippa Stokes, who helps run and volunteer at Sandhaven Brownies, said: “The bus is £3,000 alone to take us down but it’s going tot take us right to where we’re staying and the events so we won’t need to get other transport.”

The group held a meeting at The Sandhaven and Pitullie Public Hall on April 18, from which Pippa they “got a lot of good ideas”.

Following the meeting the group has come up with a number of events to help raise money for the trip.

They have a sponsored walk this Friday night that will go from Sandhaven to Fraserburgh, around the Asda and back.

One of the major fundraising events will take place on Saturday May 28 at Tesco in Fraserburgh where a 591 mile Cycle to London exercise-bike ride will be held - 591 miles being the distance between Sandhaven and London.

Pippa said: “We’re all doing it, the girls, the parents and everyone that can.”

One of the girls mothers from the group, Pauline Clarke also plans to complete a sponsored 90 lengths swim of Fraserburgh swimming pool on May 18.

Other events taking place are a bag pack on April 30 with a car boot sale being held the same day, a buttery morning on May 7 at Sandhaven Church Hall from 10 am to 12 noon and a prize bingo night on May 11.

With only six weeks left until the trip the brownies are looking to raise as much money as quickly as possible and Pippa says that have made a good start.

She said: “We raised £495 in the first week so we did well in that first week.

“I think we raised £100 the first night and £100 the second night.”

The group have also set up a Justgiving page at

Pippa hopes the girls can reach their target and attend this once in a lifetime opportunity.

On receiving the tickets she said: “There was only 250 tickets available to Girlguiding UK which were donated by the Metropolitan Police.

“We were amazed to be allocated the tickets and are overjoyed at the experience our Brownies will have if we get to go.”
