Nominations for Inspiring Aberdeenshire 2016 are now being taken and the award scheme led by Aberdeenshire Council is open to people across the area with a new Doric Award in place this year to promote the dialect.
If you know a loon, quine or community group that has gone above and beyond to support people within their locality then Aberdeenshire Council would like to hear about them.
An online form is available at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Insabs16.
The annual event is in its fourth year and 2016 will give wider recognition to the talents and service of people across Aberdeenshire’s communities with a glittering ceremony to take place at a new location at Fyvie Castle, Turriff on June 17, 2016.
There are 10 award categories with a ‘Best of’ for each of Aberdeenshire’s administrative areas (Banff and Buchan, Buchan, Formartine, Garioch, Kincardine and Mearns and Marr).
Outstanding Leader Award – awarded to someone who can demonstrate outstanding examples of leadership.
Young Leader – a young person (under 18) who has shown leadership skills in helping others and/or contributing in their community.
The Doric Award – awarded to an individual or group who has promoted Doric in Aberdeenshire such as within a school or by a heritage group.
Pupil Voice – nominated and voted for by pupils.
Aberdeenshire Provost Hamish Vernal said: “There are many inspirational moments taking place every day across Aberdeenshire.
“These awards give us the opportunity to stop and give praise to those who go the extra mile within our communities and also showcase the talented individuals living and working here.
“It gives me great pleasure to open the awards which now offer a wider remit and I will look forward to hearing more about all of the nominations, especially our new Doric Award.”
Co-Leader Councillor Richard Thomson said: “This is a chance for people who live and work in every corner of Aberdeenshire to get recognition as they strive to make our communities great.
Co-Leader Councillor Martin Kitts Hayes added: “Help us make it great and get your nomination in today. It is also easier to enter this year, so there’s no reason not to.”
Anyone can nominate a person or group for an Inspiring Aberdeenshire award and completed forms should be returned by midday on Monday, February 1, 2016.
