A young dancer from Inverallochy reached one of every Highland dancer’s goals last month.

Nine-year-old Sarah Buchan won the Under 10 Years Pre-Championship section at the North of Scotland Championships in Inverness on Saturday, October 10.

This is a great achievement for her as it is something that a dancer can only win once in their competitive careers.

Sarah has danced since she was just three-years-old and has competed in events all over Scotland and North of England since she was four.

She is a pupil of the Burnett School of Dancing in Fraserburgh and speaking to the Herald, one of her teachers, Glynis Lumsden, said: “I Knew Sarah had talent almost from her first class as she just seemed to pick things up quickly and always worked hard.

“This year since moving into the Premier section she has put in a lot of hard work both at classes and on her own to improve and grow stronger.

“I am very proud of her and I hope she will continue to build on her success.”

Glynis added: “Sarah has fantastic support from her parents, Stuart and Claire, who really put in the effort to do the travelling that competitive dancing entails.”

Sarah winning her Pre’s this year is even more special as the Burnett School is celebrating their founder Alixa’s 60 years of teaching.

The school is holding a special show on Thursday, December 3, in Fraserburgh Academy.

They are hoping a large audience to come along and enjoy the evening.

Everyone is welcome to attend.
