The annual canvass of all households in Grampian, to update the electoral register, is well underway, the Fraserburgh Herald understands.
After the first week of canvassing, Ian Milton, Electoral Registration Officer, says he is delighted at the number of households who had returned their information.
The number of households calling the automated response service, using the online or text facilities has increased by 60% overall, and in the case of text responses has increased by 150%.
This record number of households using the automated response services is helping to save thousands of pounds of public funds in postage charges and processing costs.
Households recording changes to elector’s names, or where there are difficulties in using the phone or internet, can return the canvass form in the traditional manner using the postage paid response envelopes provided.
In order to save further public funds, Mr Milton urged all households to respond before 25 September, to help avoid the additional printing and postage costs of reminders, or the commitment of resources to home visits.
