North East MSP Christian Allard has commented on how he believes Scottish independence will ensure fiscal stability for the oil and gas industry.

Mr Allard’s comments come after members of the Scottish Parliament’s Economy, Energy and Tourism travelled to Aberdeen recently to hear from industry representatives.

Members were told that multiple tax changes introduced by the UK government have made it difficult for the industry to make long term investment decisions

Commenting, Mr Allard said: “The comments from representatives of the oil and gas industry confirm that the Westminster government is out of touch with the needs of this important industry.

“The latest tax on bare boat chartering demonstrates that the UK Government imposes tax on the industry with little to no consultation, limiting its ability to maximise recovery from the UKCS.

“The Scottish Government has made clear that after independence it will ensure a stable fiscal regime for the oil and gas sector.

“It will work closely with the industry to ensure maximum recovery from the basin.”
