North East MSP Christian Allard has praised the dedication and effort demonstrated by Hannah Miley and Viorel Etko with their recent success at the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The SNP MSP lodged motions to the Scottish Parliament in recognition of their achievements.

Mr Allard praised adopted Scot and Aberdeenshire resident Viorel Etko for grabbing bronze in the FS 61Kg wrestling and he applauded Inverurie-based swimmer Hannah Miley for winning Gold in the 400m IM and Bronze in the 200m IM. The MSP also took the opportunity to congratulate Pitmedden based Lewis Clow on his efforts as he narrowly missed the final of the T37 100m.

The French born MSP said that Hannah’s performance at the Glasgow Games has been inspirational.

After Hannah Miley’s gold medal, Team Scotland went on to have its most successful Commonwealth Games, winning 53 medals.

Christian Allard said: “Hannah’s performances have been inspirational. She has dealt very well with the pressure of expectation, defending her title and breaking records along the way.

“Team Miley can be very proud of their contribution to Glasgow 2014 and I am sure Hannah’s performances will inspire the next generation of swimming champions.

“Adopted Scot Viorel Etko should also be congratulated for winning a Bronze Medal in wrestling. It is a fantastic achievement in such a tough sport made even more incredible by the fact that at 36 years old Viorel came out of retirement to compete in the Glasgow Games.

“Well done too to Pitmedden’s Lewis Clow for almost making the final of the T37 100m in one of the top international competitions. I wish them all the best for the future.”
